Why Are Your New LED Flush Mounts Flickering? (It Might Not Be the Lights)

🕵️ The Mystery: Synchronized Flickering

You’ve just installed two beautiful new fixtures. They worked perfectly for two weeks, and suddenly—flicker. Since both are on the same switch and doing it simultaneously, the odds of both LED drivers failing at the exact same second are nearly zero.

As a manufacturer with 10 years of experience, JINBIAO Lighting helps you troubleshoot this like a pro.

1. The “Old Switch” Culprit (Most Likely)

You mentioned the switch is old. Standard non-dimmer switches use mechanical contacts. Over decades, these contacts can develop carbon buildup or pitting.

  • The Science: LEDs draw very little current compared to old incandescent bulbs. An old, worn switch might create “micro-arcing”—tiny interruptions in the current that a filament bulb would ignore, but an LED driver senses instantly, causing a flicker.
  • Solution: Replace the switch with a high-quality, modern spec-grade switch. It’s a $5 fix that often solves 90% of flickering issues.

2. Shared Neutral & Ghost Voltages

In many older buildings, lighting circuits share a “Neutral” wire.

  • The Trigger: Did a refrigerator, AC unit, or vacuum start running this evening? High-power appliances on the same circuit (or sharing a neutral) can cause voltage spikes or “noise” that confuses the sensitive electronics inside an LED driver.
  • JINBIAO’s Tech: Our drivers are engineered with wide-voltage protection ($100V-265V$) to filter out minor line noise, but extreme feedback from old appliances can still cause interference.

3. Loose “Ghost” Connections

Even if your wiring at the fixture is perfect, flickering in multiple lights suggests the issue is “upstream.”

  • Check the Junction Box: A loose wire nut at the switch or at the first light in the daisy chain can cause intermittent contact as the wires heat up and cool down.

💡 How JINBIAO Ensures Stability

At JINBIAO Lighting, we don’t just focus on brightness; we focus on Circuit Resilience.

  • Premium IC Drivers: Unlike “linear” drivers found in cheap strips, our flush mount fixtures use constant-current IC drivers that can handle minor fluctuations without flickering.
  • Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC): Our products are tested to ensure they don’t interfere with your other electronics—and aren’t easily bothered by them.
  • Abel’s Professional Support: We provide our global partners with full technical troubleshooting guides. Whether you are in Canada or Nigeria, we make sure your installation stays rock-solid.
